This week promises to be the most delicious week of the winter where diners may perfect the art of dining by discovering new restaurants or enjoying their favorite.

The Traverse City region is a natural fit for our finest restaurants to offer multi-course meals that have been especially prepared for this gourmet event.

Deborah has been with the Holiday Inn West Bay since 2006, she brings to the table over 25 years of hospitality experience. The mantra that she believes in has trickled down through her entire staff, she leads by example and wants every guest to have a positive memory of their stay. She has two children, which both reside out of state, and 4 grandchildren. Deborah enjoys spending time with family and friends, and loves the outdoors.

Christine has been with the Holiday Inn West Bay since July of 1968, where she worked at the Front Desk. In the years following, she worked her way north in the building, until now where she occupies an office with a view of West Grand Traverse Bay. Christine is a native of Traverse City, and enjoys gardening, cooking at her home that she shares with her husband of 37 years, Scott. They also enjoy their kayaks, bikes, snowshoes, and fishing poles. KELLY L. MARUSKIN – DIRECTOR OF SALES AND MARKETING

Has been an employee for 3 years and she comes to us from the Metropolitan Detroit area. She has been in the hotel business for 17 years and all with Holiday Inn flag.

Kimberly has been with the Holiday Inn West Bay since 1999, where she started at the Front Desk, she then worked her way to the Sales Department as their Assistant. She is a mother of 4 and a step-mother to 3, so with having 7 children she is a very busy woman. She does enjoy watching her children sports, Sunday football with the family, spending some quality time with her husband Rob, and if she can ever escape for some time alone, she enjoys a good book. Kathy has been in the Hospitality Industry for over 20 years. She has worked in many faucets of the industry and has found her niche in the Sales department. As our wedding coordinator, her goal is to make your wedding experience a tremendous success. In her spare time she loves to entertain family and friends with her fabulous cooking and barbeque parties. She also enjoys RV camping with her husband, family and friends whether its downstate (to her home town of Spring Lake, Michigan) or to the Upper Peninsula (specifically Sugar Island). Kathy also enjoys the wintery weather of Northern Michigan and a Las Vegas trip is usually in the yearly plan for fun and excitement of a Big City get-a-way. JEFF NOELL – BAR MANAGER

Jeff has been with the Holiday Inn West Bay since July of 2008. Jeff is a Traverse City native, who has spent his 10 years of work experience in this town. Jeff has worked many jobs in the food and beverage industry, and takes pride in what he does. He enjoys sailing on West Bay and Frisbee golf at Hickory Hills. David has been with the Holiday Inn West Bay for over 30 years, and has been our Facilities Manager since 1985. He is responsible for all areas of the building maintenance and operations, as well as over seeing the continuing process of renovations and improvements to our property. He and his wife Vickie enjoy camping, canoeing, fishing, and swimming in their spare time. JOSHUA STEWART – KITCHEN MANAGER

Josh has been with the Holiday Inn West Bay since 1998. He began his career with the hotel as a dish washer, was then promoted to prep cook within 3 months, and then onto a full time line cook. For the past year and a half, Josh has held the position of Kitchen Manager. While in this position he has taken a special interest in furthering his knowledge in Banquets and Catering. He enjoys the blending of cuisine and ingredients from all over the world. In his spare time he enjoys learning different languages, science, gaming, and spending time with his 3 sons. Lynn has been with the Holiday Inn West Bay since March of 2008, and has been in the hospitality business for over 11 years. She enjoys working with the public. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She has lived in Traverse City all her life and loves it here; everyday is a new and memorable blessing.
MIKE FINDLEY – FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER

Mike has been in the hospitality business for 25 years. He started his culinary training with Schelde’s as a line cook in late 1980’s. From there he went on to study culinary arts in Columbus Ohio were he learned from Italian Chef Roger Marone, from there he moved to Florida to work at Chi-Chi Coconuts a resort in Daytona Florida as the head line cook, After leaving Florida and moving back to Northern Michigan he was hired as the assistant chef at the Park Place Hotel in Traverse City where he spent 5 years and still has menu items on the menu. Mike then went to work for the largest P.O.S dealer in the country, in the 10 years that he spent with the P.O.S dealer he installed well over 300 point of sale systems and trained well over 1000 restaurant employees across the state of Michigan. He brings a fresh attitude and new ideas to the Food & Beverage department of Holiday Inn West Bay. Mike is a Green Bay Packers fan and enjoys all sports.

Kevin Hency has been a line cook at the Holiday Inn West Bay for five years. During those years he has fine tuned his skills and adapted well to our breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus making him especially valuable to us. Sundance was rated the 3rd best new golf course in the country when it debuted for 2006 and as since done noting but earn more accolades. Golf Digest has it nominated for a spot in the top 100 golf courses in the country. Sundance has been praised as well-known architect Jerry Mathew’s best design ever, which is saying quite a bit. “The 14-acre Frazier-Freeland Preserve is a dense thicket, where deer and other critters roam, rich with food and shelter for wildlife. This preserve protects the wetlands and water of Weaver Creek, an important stream that flows into Grand Traverse Bay near Omena.”

This forested wetland is a gift to all who cherish Nature’s intricate web. 

“Scan the under story for wild rose, fuzzy white pussy toes, and the rarer fern species such as rattlesnake, interrupted, and maindenhair. Of the 13 species of rare ferns in Michigan, nine appear in Leelanau County, and many can be found in the Teichner under story. Blue flag iris also appear in the marsh.”

“This rich swamp forest shelters rare and reclusive animals and plants and is key to protecting the health of Lake Leelanau.

Along the shores of Lake Leelanau lies a tapestry of wetland habitats where Mebert Creek discharges into Lake Leelanau. One of the region’s most diverse wetland complexes, with 174 acres and over a mile of shoreline, this preserve provides undisturbed habitat for rare and threatened plants. It also filters and removes excess nutrients, thereby protecting the water quality of the lake.”

“Bubbling springs emerge to join Belanger Creek along its course through this 68-acre natural area. 5600 acres of surrounding land drain into Belanger Creek and its headwaters in Bass Lake. Brown brook trout swimunder a lowland canopy of hemlock, cedar, and white pine. There are yellow birches, too, whose bark yields a sharp wintergreen taste. Upland you find hardwood climax forest, including ash, sugar maple, and basswood.”
